This video will help you understand how twin tips can perform radically differently despite looking the same. Watch this if you want to learn more about what makes boards so different!
Each twin tip is designed for a specific use by a specific user and as such, there is a board that is perfect for beginners and a board that is excellent for freestylers.
The boards performance typically result from variations in 3 attributes; Flex, Rocker and Dimensions.
The Flex of a board correlates with response, where the stiffer the board, the more responsive it is. The trade off for having a very responsive board, is less forgiveness and as such, stiff boards are typically suited to advanced riders.
The Rocker of the board enables riders to control how much of the board edge is engaged with the water and also enables the board to pop off the surface more easily and also helps riders land at speed.
The dimensions of the board influence the boards speed, upwind edging ability and ability to build power, where bigger boards increase all these factors. Beginners typically like big boards as it's easier to edge upwind and pop onto the surface and experts like them too as they can build up more power in the board. However, a beginner board will be big, flat and soft, where the experts board will be big, hard and has a lot of rocker..... Gee, sounds sexual.
